HOW TO KEEP A TREE LOG

Like we said; first you need to find a Tree-Buddy. You could find one in the woods, in a park or perhaps you have one right in your garden? Give "him" or "her" a name. Write it in your log plus the date when you start. Now, step away so you can see your whole new buddy.
What is the shape? What does the base look like? Can you see any roots? Make a drawing. Write the notes down, too.
Measure the trunk. Put the string around it and use the measuring strip and some math to figure it out.
Make a bark-rubbing. Hold a paper to the trunk and use the flat part of your pencil tip. Draw back and forth until a pattern appears.
Trace one of the leaves. Notice what the top and underside feel like. How are the leaves attached? Are the edges smooth or jagged?
You can compare the leaf to the print-out leaf pages, to see what kind of leaves it has. Write it all down.
Depending on the season, look for flowers, fruits, nuts or seeds. Draw pictures in your log. Describe as much as you can with words and numbers; Size, color, shape and how it feels to touch? Write down everything you notice each time you visit. Remember to put down the different dates, too, so you can follow how your Tree-Buddy changes. Remember that your buddy is ALIVE! And, of course, tree-hugs are great! Have FUN and have SPARC! To print out "how to keep a Tree Log" click on the button below.
